Instead of chasing a fish with the net, block its path. Once the head of the fish is through the hoop, scoop it up in one motion. That keeps fish from avoiding the landing net with a sudden turn, and minimizes the potential for catches lost at the last minute to lines and hooks snagged on the handle or the outside of the mesh.
