Captain Joels Fishin Holes
This month is filled with Big summer fun. The Tarpon, Cobia, Trout, Redfish, Spanish Mackerel, and Snook are big and plentiful in the bay this month. The Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, Black Fin Tuna, and King fish are starting to move further and further offshore. Tarpon and Cobia are being caught at the sky way bridge, off of Anna Maria Island, Ft. Desoto pier and all over the flats in the bay. Cobia are being spotted under markers, towers, and all other structure in the bay.
There have been many more sightings than catches for Tarpon. I spoke with local legend Capt. Billy Nobles who is presently down in Boca Grande and says the Tarpon are going crazy right now. He says this is one of the best Tarpon years yet and is averaging several Tarpon catches each day.
Big Snook, Reds,Trout and Spanish Mackeral are invading the bay and by the end of the month the spanish should make it look like a war zone.
Capt. Don Geist with Pork Pie charters reported catching rour large Black Fin Tunas about 45 miles out in close to 100 ft. of water. Capt. Matt Morrisonof Apollo Beach Boat Club challenged me in the Fishing Challenge TV show on Catch 47 hosted by Julian Bernal shot out of the newly remodeled and reconstructed Inn at Little Harbor formally Bahia Beach. In the offshore challenge Matt beat me by 57 points.
