The coastal waters of Miami are home to mega-yachts and pleasure boats during the day. At night, the waters come alive with oversize tarpon.
The city of Miami, Miami Beach, and surrounding areas are uniquely situated along the Florida coastline to allow for a high turnover of fresh ocean water inshore from the Gulf Stream. Even with the heavily developed shorelines in Miami, the clean water and the bridges make for a uniquely friendly tarpon fishing environment.
And fly anglers cash in.
Anglers in the know hit the hard incoming or outgoing tide with heavy gear. Tarpon line up along the shadow lines from the bridge lights, waiting for shrimp, crabs and baitfish to flush through with tides.
There are plenty of opportunities to hookup with tarpon in one night. But be ready to follow that fish in and around the pilings–you won’t pull these fish from structure in a stationary boat.
