IGFA Offers Scale Certification

The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) now offers scale testing and certification for its members. IGFA will test hand-held scales using certified weights and send the scales back to the member with an official report on the test results. The certifications are good for one year.
It is sometimes difficult in remote areas to make sure that a potential world-record catch is weighed on scales that are certified to be accurate. For this reason, many anglers bring their own certified scales when fishing in remote areas. This service makes it easier for members to find a source for getting their scales certified. Carrying a certified scale also makes it possible to weigh and release a catch and still submit it for a world record, provided all other requirements are met.
Members wishing to take advantage of this service should ship their scale to IGFA headquarters, along with a $10 check to cover the cost of return shipping. For further information on this and other services, contact IGFA, 300 Gulf Stream Way, Dania Beach, FL 33004; 954-927-2628.
