Magellan’s newest addition to its line of GPS navigators is the GPS 310, an entry-level handheld unit that retails for less than $120. This receiver features not only an armored waterproof design, but it floats, too. It offers a 12-channel receiver with built-in communications and output capability. Compatible with most popular PC navigation software, the GPS 310 accepts real-time correction data for accuracy to within five meters.
The keypad’s design remains simple in an easy-to-access pattern with a user-friendly operating system. The unit comes with an EL backlit display that simultaneously shows speed, direction and distance to destination. The three simple navigation screens include a position screen that displays current location information in either latitude/longitude or UTM coordinates as well as satellite status. A resettable trip odometer, a variety of international grid systems and the capability for worldwide navigation complete the navigation features. The unit can save up to 100 locations, as well as one reverse route with up to 10 legs, and operates continuously for 20 hours on two AA batteries.
The unit comes with a wrist strap and a voucher for a free data cable. A variety of accessories, including cases, mounting brackets and power cables, is also available.
