The Coastal Conservation Association (CCA)- Texas recently recognized Mercury Marine as the first recipient of their Millenium CCA Hall of Fame Award. Based out of Houston, CCA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to conserving the saltwater marine resource, as well as improving fish habitats and fisheries. CCA has more than 90,000 members, living in every state from Texas east up the Eastern Seaboard to Maine. The award honors Mercury Marine’s continued support of CCA efforts since 1987.
“Like CCA-Texas, Mercury has been a true pioneer in spearheading environmental efforts,” Bill Kinney, director CCA-Texas, said, “Mercury was involved with the environment long before it was fashionable to do so. Mercury Marine has paved the way for other large organizations to get involved with conservation. Mercury’s long-standing relationship with CCA has been immeasurable, so when it came to presenting this first-ever award, Mercury was the obvious recipient.”
During the nearly 15 years, Mercury has been associated with CCA-Texas, it has contributed nearly $1 million in cash and products to CCA’s efforts. Mercury is also involved with CCA’s State of Texas Angler’s Rodeo Tournament as an exclusive engine sponsor. The S.T.A.R. Tournament is an annual rodeo-style fishing event lasting from Memorial Day through Labor Day which awards nearly $1 million in prizes to winners in several different fish categories. Prizes include several $50,000 college scholarships as well as numerous boat packages. The S.T.A.R. tournament seeks to promote the CCA’s cause as well as increase CCA’s membership base.
