Intermediate lines. Sink tips. Shooting heads. Running line. Floaters. Cold water. Warm water. And then there’s the color issue. Before you know it, most fly fishermen end up with a collection of fly lines and specialty heads that would rival Imelda Marcos’ shoe collection.
Rio Products can help you simplify your fly-line issues and save you some money in the process, thanks to its new Leviathan VersiTip system. This system gives you a 26-foot intermediate body on a braided monofilament core with a stiff loop at the head where you can attach any number of specialty tips. This gives you the ability to use one line and simply change tips as conditions or target species require.
The Leviathan comes with the black body and running line, variously tinted 300-, 400- and 500-grain tips, and a wallet for storing the various heads. Additional AquaLux clear tips of 200 and 300 grains can be purchased separately, as well as super-fast-sinking tips of 200, 600 and 700 grains.
This fly line was originally designed for offshore species such as sailfish, marlin, tuna and dolphin, but it has become the choice for striped bass, bluefish, trevally and roosterfish. It can be used in warm water or cold.
The VersiTip system retails for $145.
