Calcasieu Lake Trout Study underway

Anglers are requested to release any specks that are affixed with yellow dart-tags and to report the tag's number, the date the fish was caught, and the location of its capture at 800-891-3977.

The initial stage of the Calcasieu Lake Trout Study was completed on 10-15 when 34 spotted seatrout were tagged, fitted with acoustic transmitters, and released back into the lake, which is Louisiana’s premier producer of trophy-sized specks. This makes a total of more than 180 similarly-equipped fish in the study. Their movements up and down the lake will be recorded by 55 acoustic receivers, providing biologists with information about the fish’s response to various stimuli like salinity changes. Anglers are requested to release any specks that are affixed with yellow dart-tags and to report the tag’s number, the date the fish was caught, and the location of its capture at 800-891-3977. Also, transmitters should be removed from fish that are retained and reported to the same number for return and reuse.
