Baits lose their natural appearance and lifelike action when they are stored improperly. Engel recognized the importance of fresh bait and created a new bait tray system that works perfectly with its 35-, 65- and 80-quart marine ice chests. Two depths of Engel bait trays are available for each chest. The standard-size trays are 2.3 inches, perfect for storing rigged baits such as ballyhoo, swimming mullet and mackerel. Deeper 3.9-inch trays are available as well and will accommodate boxes of frozen baits, like sardines, squid and chum. Engel’s design allows stored baits to “float” on top of the ice, which keeps them cold and fresh without putting them in direct contact with the ice.
