Salt Water Sportsman contributors won first and second place in the Fishing Category of the annual writing contest held by Boating Writers International. “Bally U” (May 2003) by Glenn Law won first place and a $500 check, while “Maximum Mako” (September 2003) by Ron Ballanti took second and $300. In addition, SWS Senior Editor Karl Anderson took third place and a check for $200 in the Boat/Engine Care and Maintenance category for his feature “Outrigger Rigging 101” (September 2003). Mark Sosin’s “Strategies for Success” (February 2003) won honorable mention with a Certificate of Merit award in the Fishing Category.
