At the Miami Boat Show in February, West Marine debuted a line of technical gear and casual apparel, including the men’s lightweight Typhoon Jacket and the heavier-duty sixth generation of men’s and women’s Third Reel Foul Weather Gear. Typhoon features a breathable membrane laminated between two fabric layers. Breathable fabrics allow water vapor, but not liquid, to pass through. Typhoon’s coated shell prevents water intrusion. In sizes M to XXL and in black, gray, red, ocean blue and fuchsia, the jacket costs $129. Third Reef jackets and bibs are 100 percent water and windproof yet offer full range of movement and ventilation. Features include a foldaway hood, gusseted cargo pockets, zippered hand-warmer pockets and adjustable cuffs.
