Day Three: Offshore World Championship

Anglers tallied 721 sailfish, three blue marlin and one black marlin to bring the overall three day total to 2,492 billfish releases.

Day Three of the 16th Annual Offshore World Championship continued to rewrite the record books. By lines out, anglers tallied 721 sailfish, three blue marlin and one black marlin to bring the three day total to 2,492 billfish releases, which beat last year’s record three day total by 178 releases.

Team 2003 Offshore World Champions, Bermuda, released 28 sailfish worth 5,600 points to take top team honors for Day Three. The championship anglers mainly target sailfish, worth 200-points per release. A blue, black or striped marlin will earn 500-points per release. Tuna, wahoo and dorado, also score team points and count for individual prizes.

1st Place Tuna leader weighed in at 25 pounds, caught by Travis Franklin, representing the GFA of PNG National Titles, Papua New Guinea.

Following each day of fishing, the anglers enjoy themselves at the daily Dockside Socials at Marina Pez Vela with complimentary Flor de Cana Rum, local Costa Rican beer, food provided by Runaway Grill Restaurant and live entertainment while the anglers check-in their release videos.

The tournament fishing will continue throughout the week, ending on April 16. The Awards Gala at Marina Pez Vela will be April 17, which will honor the top teams, boats and anglers.
