Fort Pierce, Florida-based Pursuit Boats makes dual-console, open express and sport center-console boats, all high-quality, luxury offshore craft built to exacting standards from 24 to 44 feet.
Pursuit introduced its first boat in 1977, when Leon Slikkers, then president of Michigan-based, sailing-focused S2 Yachts, had a vision to create a series of fishing boats. Six years later, Pursuit broke ground on the first of its two manufacturing facilities in Fort Pierce, where it steadily expanded further. The vaunted brand is still based in Fort Pierce today.
In 2018, Pursuit became a part of the Tennessee-based Malibu Boats family (the Malibu Boat Group also includes Cobia, Pathfinder, and Hewes boat brands) and its steady stream of innovations and new models has continued with uninterupted success.
In the last three years, two Pursuit Sport models have been recognized by Boating Industry magazine in its Top Products program. At the same time, Pursuit has continued to launch massive new flagship models in its popular Sport and Offshore boat lines.
Pursuit S 328
New last year, Pursuit’s S 328 revolutionized one of its most popular models, with more space, comfort and convenience.
On the deck, coaming storage lockers were added port and starboard, an in-floor storage compartment was created for gear, and vastly improved storage space under the leaning post. The entertainment center boasts added drawer storage, and a built-in, insulated cooler nests in the transom.
The helm was fully redesigned to optimize ergonomics and provide improved storage. An integrated footrest folds down to become a raised platform for improved visibility. Options for the helm include teak accents, solid teak Edson steering wheel and a leather dash pad.
The transformed console cabin includes a new intuitive and easy one-handed conversion of settee to berth. Even when the now-wider berth is selected, floor space is generous. The head isn’t prominent when not in use, thanks to a decorative front panel and upholstered cover that also functions as a seat.
Pursuit considers its S 328 the ultimate offshore fishing platform. Nine stainless-steel rod holders line the gunwales and transom, and optional hardtop-mounted rod holders provide even more storage for fishing outfits. Dedicated tackle storage is built into the helm seat base. In-sole insulated fish boxes on port and starboard each have independent diaphragm pump-outs. The boat is pre-rigged for both downriggers and electric reels, with reinforced plates for the former and wiring for both.
The cockpit transforms easily from fishing platform to entertainment hub, which includes a sink with cutting board, drawer storage below, and an optional grill. Fiberglass tables pair with patented fold-down transom and aft-facing seats to create an inviting social zone. An optional Makefast-powered sunshade deploys quietly at the push of a button, thanks to its single-motor design. A large transom cooler with removable dividers accommodates food, beverages, or extra storage.
The redesigned S 328, powered by twin Yamaha 300 or 350 engines, cruises comfortably with twin 350s at 34.3 at 4000 RPMs, with a top speed of 51.2 as tested by Yamaha.
Editor’s Tip
The smooth-riding S 328 Sport casts aside spray with its chine flats. Handling is precise and predictable, and the boat seems immune to rough seas and chop. A Seakeeper gyrostabilizer is optional, but even without one, the hull is exceptionally stable at rest. -Jim Hendricks
