Piling up

I fish with an 8-weight multitip line from Cabela's, and sometimes the end section just falls in a pile on a 70-plus-foot cast. What am I doing wrong?

A: The line piles at the end because you didn’t develop enough line speed. You may be overworking your rod hand on longer casts, which usually results in an open loop and wasted energy. If you’re throwing a tight loop and the line is still piling, you need to increase the speed of the haul without making any extra effort with your rod hand.
