Golfito Sailfish Rancho in Costa Rica is hosting the first Stu Apte Fly-Fishing Sailfish Tournament next February. This is a team event, with two anglers per team and one team per boat. The $600 entry fee includes IGFA membership, a contribution to the Costa Rica Sport Fishing Association, the kickoff party, awards banquet and more. This is an IGFA-sanctioned event, and the winning team will be invited to fish the IGFA Rolex Tournament of Champions. Reservations are on a first-come-first-served basis, and a $500 deposit per person and the tournament fee are due at the time of booking. When Golfito Sailfish Rancho is booked, additional lodging and boats are available nearby.
The tournament is part of a six-day package that includes three days’ practice fishing before the real deal. The cost is $3,755 per person and covers all meals, lodging, fishing boats, fishing license and open bar while at Golfito Sailfish Rancho, as well as most in-country transfers. Flights to San Jose, meals in San Jose, airport departure tax, and gratuities are not included.
