A company whose name is synonymous with high-performance fly rods, Sage Manufacturing, makes yet another major splash in the industry this year with one of its newest models, the** FLi**.

An ideal rod for beginning fly-fishers or those new to salt water, as well as an excellent choice for a secondary rod, the FLi was designed using the analysis methods developed in Sage’s signature Generation5 (G5) technology. This rod merges a fast-action taper with an incredibly smooth power curve in a combination that allows anglers to generate high line speed without detracting from their ability to feel the rod load. This efficient transfer of power throughout the rod helps execute a more effective cast.

Sage constructed the FLi series rods with a wider-diameter, thin-walled blank; British-made snake guides; and high-grade Portuguese cork grips, but it’s built in the USA. The 7- through 10-weights have anodized-aluminum reel seats and come in either two- or four-piece models. While the portability and performance are outstanding, its best feature is the price tag. Retail prices range from $255 for two-piece rods to $295 for four-piece models (the 10 is comes only in four pieces), and a four-piece, 14-foot 8-weight is available for $425. Each rod is backed by a lifetime original warranty.
