There are thousands of different kinds of hooks on the market, in vast varieties of shapes, lengths and barb styles. Which ones do we use? Umpqua Feather Merchants has solved at least one dilemma for many of us by introducing a new line of Tiemco hooks with a redesigned hook point for accelerated penetration and increased holding power. This new Tiemco SP line features a hollowed curve point with easily sharpened triangulated edges. The slower taper of the point lowers the resistance during penetration, which accelerates hook-sets and increases the holding ability. In addition, the point helps larger flies track better by functioning as a keel.
For the saltwater fly fisherman, these new hooks are available in sizes 1/0 to 8/0 in straight eye, 3X heavy, 2X short and black nickel finish. All models’ eyes are large enough for shock tippets and are packaged in either small packs (6 to 12 hooks retailing for $10) or large packs (17 to 29 hooks for $25).
