Reader Tips: Return of the Noodle

Use pool poodles as bumpers.

I found that keeping the bumpers between my boat and the pilings at my favorite ramp was a full-time job. Since I don’t have the room to store oversize bumpers, I came up with a better idea. I slid PVC pipe inside the largest foam pool noodles I could find to add rigidity, and ran a dock line through the center, tying knots near either end of the pipe to eventually help keep the rope centered. I drilled holes in PVC end caps and threaded them down the rope before gluing them onto the pipe ends. I then tied loops in the ends of the rope at the appropriate length, and hung each loop off a cleat. No more worries!
