Reader Tips: Quick Release Center Line

Attach a kite-release clip to a boat hook and put it in the center launcher.

Double Duty

All the outrigger, downrigger and flat lines get crowded in the back of my 26-foot center console, so I put the centerline rod up in the rocket launcher to ease the congestion. But whenever something bit, someone had to scramble up to bring it down, costing valuable seconds. My solution was to attach a kite-release clip to my boat hook, and put it up in the launcher, but leave the rod in the holder in the back of the helm seat. I mounted the release clip using an existing screw on my boat hook and some fishing wire with connector sleeves, but tying it on with strong mono would also work.
