Stripey on a Fly

Pending approval by the IGFA, fly angler Charlie Tombras will have set his seventh fly-fishing world record.

Pending approval by the IGFA, fly angler Charlie Tombras will have set his seventh fly-fishing world record. Tombras landed his new 6-pound-test tippet record — a 94-pound striped marlin — in November 2001 while fishing in Magdalena Bay. He was fishing aboard the God’s Favor with Capt. Bubba Carter. The fight lasted just over an hour and a half and marks the largest marlin of any kind ever landed on 6-pound tippet. The previous 6-pound tippet striped marlin record was 78 pounds.
