Old Salt Fishing Foundation Announces $27,500 Donation to Local Charities

The Old Salt Fishing Foundation presented $27,500 in cash donations to four local charities at their May monthly meeting Tuesday night, May 10, 2005. The money represented the proceeds of their 12th Annual Spring King of the Beach fishing tournament held May 21st and 23rd at the Madeira Beach Ball Fields.

The charities benefiting from the generosity of the Old Salt’s are:

The Children’s Dream Fund  $10,000
PARC, Pinellas Association for Retarded Children $10,000
TASCO, Teen Arts, Sports and Cultural Opportunities, City of St. Petersburg  $7,000
City of Madeira Beach Recreational Center $500

The Lichtenberger Foundation of Palm City, Florida provided a matching challenge grant in the amount of $10,000 facilitated by local tackle shop owners Erich and PK Lichtenberger of Bett’s Fishing Center, 12504 Starkey Rd., Largo.

The $27,500 brings the total donated to date in 2005 to $35,000.00 as the organization completes its third event of the year.  The proceeds of the first tournament, the Johnny Kellar Memorial Fishing Tournament (January) benefited All Children’s Hospital.

Next up is the 17th Annual Old Salt Ladies Inshore Offshore Fishing Tournament to be held June 23rd and 25th, 2005, at Gator’s on the Pass, 12781 Kingfish Drive, Treasure Island.  Proceeds to benefit the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation.

The Old Salt Fishing Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization with local roots providing more than 30 years of service to the community.  The organization, comprised solely of volunteers, and with a schedule of more than 12 fundraising events each year, generated in excess of $90,000 to local charitable organizations in 2004.  The group holds monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of the month at the American Legion Post 273, 600 American Legion Drive, Madeira Beach.
