Italians design everything with style and flair, apparently right down to their fly reels – as evidenced by the new reel the Peux Co.introduced recently. Thanks to a patented gear system, Peux has created a fine multiplier and anti-reverse reel.

Peux’s new reels are available in two series, the AR, or regular antireverse, and the Plus. Both feature the patented multiplier gear system with a 1:4 retrieve ratio, but the Plus reels also have a switch to select between two antireverse options – normal and Plus. In the Plus position, only a light secondary brake applies pressure to the line. Under this setting, the handle turns at a 4:1 ratio, and if stopped the drag reverts to the original setting.

The drag systems feature a series of Teflon discs and offer plenty of stopping power, sensitivity and consistency across its range. The reels themselves are machined from high-quality bar-stock aluminum and feature six stainless-steel ball bearings for smooth performance. Despite the multiplier mechanism, the reels remain lightweight, and spools can be changed quickly. Because of the precision construction, Peux reels are sturdy and require little maintenance, even in salt water.

The AR series reels are available in six models up to 12-weight; the Plus series includes four models from 5- to 10-weight. The reels come with a lifetime guarantee and retail for between $270 and $515. Currently they are still available only at www.peuxreels.com.
