Lighthouse Point Angler Wins Sunset Tarpon Tourney

Winds of about 20 knots made for tricky fishing at the Mercury Redbone at Large Celebrity Sunset Tarpon tournament.

MARATHON, Florida Keys – Winds of about 20 knots made for tricky fishing at the Mercury Redbone at Large Celebrity Sunset Tarpon tournament, held March 23 and 24. By the competition’s conclusion, six tarpon were released, and Arnold Sedel a resident of Lighthouse Point, Fla., had been named grand champion angler.According to tournament coordinator Gary Ellis, the combination of the weather, rough water and the nature of the beast accounted for a light show in fish. ”One of our anglers had nine hook-ups, so I guess the action wasn’t all that bad,” said Ellis.Captain Chris Morrison of Marathon, Fla., received the Guide to Grand Champion Angler award for leading Sedel to victory, and astronaut Bruce Melnick of Merritt Island, Fla., claimed the Celebrity Grand Champion position for a release accomplished with Captain Richard Stiglitz.
