J. Ryall’s #12 Reel

Anglers headed offshore in search of bigger quarry, many reel manufacturers have introduced fly reels that can stand up to the rigors of blue water.

Anglers headed offshore in search of bigger quarry, many reel manufacturers have introduced fly reels that can stand up to the rigors of blue water. J. Ryall decided to make a reel that was not only up to the task, but also affordable. Enter the new #12 Ryall reel.

The 4 1/4-inch reel features a large-arbor design and a handle created to afford optimum gripping power when hauling in big fish. Like all J. Ryall reels, the #12 is machined from solid 6061 aircraft aluminum bar stock and hard-anodized for maximum durability. Weighing in at only 9.2 ounces, these reels hold over 300 yards of 30-pound backing. The unique patented drag system consists of two delrin brake shoes that expand on the inside of a bronze cylinder, creating an efficient braking action with minimum start-up inertia. Suggested retail price is $345 for the reel; extra spools will run $175.
