Pass the tag end under the line on your finger, under the first turn over the doubled-line loop. Wet the line and pull on the standing part of the leader and the double line. Trim the tag end, which should protrude at a 90-degree angle. Joe Mahler/joemahler.com

In the alternative finish, simply pull the tag end of the leader back through the end of the doubled section of the standing line, in the opposite direction you first entered it.
