How To Rig an Anchor Release

Essential skills for every angler
Rig an Anchor Release Fishing
Steve Sanford

Avoid the headache of a stuck anchor by rigging a fail-safe release. Attach the bitter end of the chain to the crown of the anchor with a shackle, then secure the chain to the shank with a zip tie. The anchor functions normally, but should it foul, motor beyond the anchor placement. Reversing the pull on the rode breaks the zip tie and pulls the anchor flukes free. Remember to carry spare zip ties to rerig.
