Penn Slammer Spinning Reels

Anglers who like the heft and durability of a metal-bodied reel will celebrate the introduction of Penn’s new Slammer spinning reels. Available in 2 models, the Slammers boast a rugged die-cast aluminum housing, sideplate and rotor that are anodized and powder-coated to guard against corrosion. An elongated machined-aluminum spool promotes long casts, while the large, offset roller delivers friction-free retrieves. Internal components include 4 stainless ball bearings, a stainless spool shaft and infinite anti-reverse system for sure hook-sets. The Slammer 460 ($128) weighs in at 19 oz. and holds 240 yrds. of 12 lb. test, while the 560 ($130) weighs 20 oz. and holds 325 yrds. of 12 lb. test. Both models feature a 4.6:1 retrieve ratio and a comfortable soft-grip handle that can be easily changed from right- to left-hand retrieve. Penn, Philadelphia, PA; (215) 229-9415; www.pennreels.com.
