Gamakatsu hooks
The problem with many small hooks is that they are simplyscaled-down versions of the larger ones. This allows them to bendand break very easily, especially when a speed demon like abonefish grabs hold.
Gamakatsu has introduced a seriously strong new hook speciallydesigned for small bonefish flies, the SL45. Before theintroduction of the SL45, it was hard to find a hook for smallbonefish flies that also could handle larger fish. This hook isavailable only in sizes down to a true No. 10 and up to a No. 4,but it is made from 2X strong carbon steel with a black finish thatis stealthy as well as corrosion-resistant. The No. 10 is smallenough for those really finicky bones, but the high-carbon steelshank is strong enough to keep them out of the mangroves oncethey’re hooked. The point runs parallel to the hook shank for quickcontact and easy penetration. These hooks work great for anyspecies that requires smaller flies.
