No matter what the brochures say, fishermen’s pliers really come in only two styles: the cheap ones that rust out after a single season and the really expensive ones that will last at least a few years longer than it takes you to pay off your credit card.
A new “bullet-head” set of universal pliers now available from Dr. Slick Instruments brings the best of both worlds. The 5.5-inch, 4-ounce stainless-steel pliers come with a choice of green vinyl or foam rubber grips in a Cordura nylon hip holster with an attached lanyard.
Like the expensive varieties, the Dr. Slick pliers have grooved jaws and two micro grooves for crushing barbs and crimping sleeves on wire leaders. The side cutting edge will handle virtually any Monel, braided wire or monofilament line. They are available in a black or satin finish, priced at $17.50 (vinyl grips) or $19.50 (foam handles).
