There are several answers to this question. If you want to have the most opportunities to catch a permit, I suggest the Ascension Bay area of the Yucatán Peninsula. And while some huge permit have been taken there, most of them are small – but they’re still permit.

For good chances at larger permit, say around 20 pounds, southern Belize is excellent. If you want a true trophy, 25 pounds or larger, I suggest the Florida Keys. You’ll find big permit from the southern end of Biscayne Bay all the way to Key West, which is my first choice for hunting trophy permit.
