Overlining a rod

I read in your book to upline when casting sinking lines. Do you do this when using clear, intermediate lines as well?

Answer:
All modern rods will cast at least one line size more and less. For example, an 8-weight rod should be able to cast both a 7- and a 9-weight line. If I am casting short distances in the wind, I often opt for one size lighter line, but most of the time I find that with intermediates (they shoot extremely well) the line size the rod calls for is best. I rarely overline a rod with a clear, intermediate line.
