Determining rod action for your style

Is there any way to determine what rod action best suits my casting style? I don't have access to a store where I can try out various models. I'm sure I want to buy a new 6- or 7-weight rod for salt water, and I'll have to order it through the mail.

I would not recommend a 6- or 7-weight fly rod for most saltwater fly-fishing situations because conditions vary so much. You will be throwing heavier flies into the wind and at longer distances. I would suggest that you buy at least an 8-weight. As for getting a rod that accommodates your casting style, I have not seen a bad fly rod sold in a long time (you
couldn’t say that years ago). Casting style has little to do with which rod you use. Most rods today have basically medium-fast action and will accommodate all styles.
