The Next Great Destination?

I’ve been fly-fishing for many years now but I’m still blown away at the things I find out are going on in the community. While it’s not uncommon to hear reports of 12-14 lb. bonefish caught in the keys or an angler releasing 20 sailfish in Guatemala, there are some amazing things happening in places I never knew had a fly fishery. Take yesterday for example: I rolled into the office after a long weekend and while sipping my coffee, I starting going through my emails. I had the typical spam messages, a few work related requests but also had two very interesting video links. One came from contributor Kendall Osborne. Osborne road along on the Delta Dawn out of Virgina Beach with Capt. Pete Manuel and anglers Bill Gooch and Allen Palmer in pursuit of white marlin. I’ve heard of plenty of white marlin caught on fly in places like Venezuela but never Virginia. Here’s some visual proof:

The second video link that caught my attention in a big way was one that came from Stefano Mantegazza. The email I received from Mantegazza simply said:

Have a look, 2 days ago.

At the bottom was a link. Short bodied emails with video link are typically pretty interesting. So, I opened it up and the embedded video was amazing. Personally, I have never been fortunate enough to have ever cast a fly to a bluefin tuna — frankly, it scares me a little. Check this out:

To me, videos like this prove that just when we think we’ve scratched the surface of covering every fly fishing destination — there’s plenty more that are overlooked!
