Where is the next fly-fishing frontier? When I started fly fishing, I was flat broke and couldn’t even afford to think about going to the places I read about. Since then, I can honestly say that fly fishing has taken me to places that I couldn’t have conjured in my wildest dreams.
However, like most anglers, I want more. I want to go to places where the fish have never seen a fly. Many would argue that there are few places like this that exist anymore. I agree that we’ve done a pretty good job of exploring the world’s oceans but I don’t think we are anywhere close to having turned over every fly-fishing stone there is.
I love looking at Google Earth and zooming in on certain areas — areas that I’ve never even heard of. The ocean is an awfully big place and I’m anxious to find the next uncovered gem. I have suspicions about several locales — locales that I’m currently in the process of figuring out the logistics to visit. I realize that spots like this could involve a ton of travel and lots of prep work only to realize I never hear about fly fishing there for a reason. But, the other side of the coin, it could mean stumbling upon an unknown honey hole.
