Heli-fishing the Northern Territory of Australia

I'll keep you updated as I fish the remote areas of Australia for species such as barramundi.

By the time you read this blog, I’ll more than likely be flying around the outback of Australia’s Northern Territory — deep in the bush (I’ve always wanted to say that).

I’m pretty sure that I’m only a few seconds away from being scolded for not shutting my computer down and preparing for landing (I’ve been asked once already to do so). So I’ll have to keep this short.

We are about to touch down in Darwin, and once there, I’ll immediately begin assembling my gear for tomorrow’s heli-fishing — kinda spooky. Heli-fishing is exactly what it sounds like … using a helicopter to get to our remote fishing spots.

Tomorrow, I’ll be fishing with Chris Woodward, senior editor of Fly Fishing in Salt Waters’ sister publication, Sport Fishing. She’ll be on the plug rod, I’ll be throwing feathers and fur. We’ll just have to see if the fly can out perform the plug. Wish me luck!

The folks at Australia’s Northern Territory have hosted us for the entire trip and Airborne Solutions in Darwin have provided the helicopter travel.

We’ll have plenty of coverage in the coming days, provided I have some access to internet. It should be a great trip!
