Luckily, we awoke this morning with pleasant weather conditions and right off the bat, our guide Tomas Hernandez had us within casting range of big permit. Grand Slam Lodge manager, Bobby Settles made several picture perfect presentations and had one estimated 30-pound fish follow the fly right to the boat. Why that fish didn’t eat I’ll never know, but I guess that’s permit fishing. We consistently found fish all day long but as the day wore on, the dreaded gray sky returned making it very difficult to spot fish. Tomorrow, the plan is going to be the same only I hope to be telling a “catching” story rather than a “fishing story”. That’s it for now from Grand Slam Lodge in Punta Allen, Mexico.
