Apalachicola Fishing Report

Tripletail are still biting, Capt. Chad had an angler catch an 18 pounder and Capt. Charles Cooper called to tell me about the mess of "Purty Trout"...

Sam Mattraw is probably more likely to be offshore bottom fishing for grouper & snapper but when his dad Chuck Mattraw came all the way from Red Lodge MT to Marianna FL to take him fishing with Capt. Tommy Robinson - well, this is what happens. And from what I gather, the father & son duo cast at (and caught) redfish for hours last Friday. Tommy came home and told me "It doesn't get any better". Since neither of the Mattraw men are available right now for comment, I'll take his word for it.

After diving offshore on Sunday we took a quick tour through the annual White Trash Bash festivities at Dog Island, mostly because I'd never been before. You couldn't even begin to count the vast numbers of boats anchored up in the shallow water but to me it looked pretty much under control and everyone there seemed to be enjoying and behaving themselves. There was a pretty strong law enforcement showing that probably helped. I was impressed to hear that people (my brother Charlie Holtom of Wefing's Marine for one) actually planned ahead and had a designated boat driver for the trip back across the bay. I'm so proud!

Attention Flats fishermen - Capt. Jason Rucker has had a cancellation June 15, 16 & 17 for flats/fly/tarpon fishing. (first come, first fish) David Heinke, who has intimate knowledge of the Apalachicola Bay waters, has plenty of days open in the next couple weeks. It's starting to get HOT!

Tripletail are still biting, Capt. Chad had an angler catch an 18 pounder and Capt. Charles Cooper called to tell me about the mess of "Purty Trout" they caught this morning. I'll be here watching my new orange fuzzy birthday kitten sleep on the window sill & waiting for my pool to finally get fixed, so call me!
