JACKSONVILLE, FL – MAY 9, 2006 – The Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic is rapidly gaining momentum with over 200 anglers have registered for the May 19-20 event. The tournament, run by JaxKayakFishing.com, is the world’s largest kayak fishing tournament with over $45,000 in prizes and gifts from 90 sponsors and is one of Jacksonville’s premier eco-tourism events.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit children’s programs for abused and neglected kids at Daniel, Florida’s oldest children’s services agency as well as the St. Johns Riverkeeper. News/Talk 690 WOKV and Florida Fishing Weekly have come onboard as media sponsors of the Classic and will be providing pre- and post-event coverage and advertising.

The hosts of the Outdoors Show, Capt. Kevin Faver, Jeff Lageman, and Capt. Kirk Waltz will be emceeing the captain’s meeting on May 19th at Strike Zone Fishing. Honorary captains John Culbreth, director of Parks and Recreation of the City of Jacksonville, Councilwoman Lynette Self, and Times-Union columnist Ron Littlepage will help kick off tournament festivities. There will be raffles and auctions of kayaks and equipment at the captains meeting and the general public is encouraged to come and see what kayak fishing in Jacksonville is all about.

Anglers will launch at first light Saturday May 20th at any inshore location in the Duval, St. Johns, or Nassau county area, and seek redfish, trout, and flounder in a conservation-oriented catch-photo-release format. After fishing is the check-in, awards ceremonies, and banquet at Sneakers Sports Grille in Jacksonville Beach. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the kayak fishing camaraderie, festivities, raffles, and auctions for charity.
