This has been a rough winter here in the coastal bend by anyone’s definition – we have had very few fishable days. On a positive note, we have had great rains that are pumping lots of freshwater into the bay system which should really set us up well for the next spring/summer and fall fishing seasons. We’ve had four straight days of freezing weather which dropped water temperatures in the bay to a consistent 48 degrees from San Antonio Bay to the Lower Laguna Madre. In the Rockport/Aransas area, we didn’t have a significant fish kill except for snook. I have heard about a trout kill in the Port O’conner area but the TPWD biologists I have talked to have not reported any major fish kills, so it looks like we have really gotten lucky with this particular event.
