When bottom fishing over rocky bottom and mussel beds for sea bass and porgies, I use a plastic wiffle ball to prevent snags. I make a slight cut in the wiffle ball with a sharp knife – just large enough to allow me to squeeze in the sinker at the lower end of my bottom rig. The wiffle ball keeps the weight from catching in the rocks and mussel beds. The holes in the ball allow the water to flow in and out, helping to reduce resistance on the retrieve.
