U.N. Panel Recommends Closure of Pacific Commercial Fisheries

A panel of experts of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization released a report that recommends closing certain Pacific commercial fisheries that use gear that poses the greatest threat to endangered Pacific leatherback and loggerhead sea turtles. The report says that commercial fisheries involving the use of gillnets and longlines pose the worst threats to sea turtles, and should be subjected to closures.
