Troll-Odorizer

I drill a 1/8-inch hole in the top of a plastic wire nut and thread it, top end first, onto my leader before attaching my trolling lure or bait hook. Once it is in place, I pack the cavity of the wire nut with menhaden jelly or paste. The water passing through the hole in the leading edge of the wire nut pushes the scented paste out the back of the nut so it flows over the bait or lure. I repack the wire nut as needed when I check my bait or lure, and I often use it in conjunction with a skirt. To make my own scent jelly, I mix menhaden oil into a jar of petroleum jelly.
