More than 7,000 representatives from the global sport fishing community converged on Las Vegas last week for the 54th International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, better know as ICAST.
Highlight of the show every year is the New Product Showcase “Best of Show” Awards, which this year featured 21 categories of tackle and related items that were judged and voted on by buyers and outdoor journalists. The winning entries included a range of products of particular interest to saltwater anglers.
Winner of the New Product Showcase in both the Line category and the Overall “Best of Show” is Berkley Nanofil fishing line, a gel-spun polyethylene that Pure fishing calls the ultimate spinning reel fishing line.
In the Apparel division, the Frabill Suit will find a place at the wintertime helm of cold-weather anglers.
JL Marine Systems, Inc., took the Boating Accessory category for the new 10-foot Power-Pole Blade Edition with remote control.
In the Eyewear category, Costa took top honors with the Costa Women’s Collection of sunglasses.
G. Pucci & Sons’ P-Line Sparrowhawk, 5-inch fishing pliers with tungsten carbide line cutters, won for Fishing Accessory.
Temple Fork Outfitters new model the BVK Fly Reel won that category, for this series of precision machined bar stock aluminum reels with a super large arbor design.
The Pro4x form G. Loomis, Inc., won the fly-rod category for these moderately priced rods which run up to 8-, 9-, 10-weight for saltwater use.
In the Hard Lure category, the Sebile D&S Crank, snagless crankbait with an inline hook that dives to four feet, took the top prize.
In Saltwater Reels, the Saltiga SATG5000H, Daiwa’s redesigned flagship spinning reel was the winner.
Especially designed for west coast tuna fishing, Shimano’s Terez Rail Rod won the Saltwater Rod category.
And to carry it all, the Tackle Management division was taken by Plano Molding Company’s 4674 Hydro-Flo Tackle Bag, a durable shoulder bag with seven tackle boxes and plenty of additional storage.
