To keep my reel from taking a dunk while surf fishing, I made a rod holder from a carabiner and a six-inch piece of rope. I tie a loop in one end of the rope and secure the other end to the carabiner, which I clip onto my belt loop. Once I slide the rod butt into the loop, I have two free hands to make lure adjustments-and untangle lines.
