SWS Contributor Honored with Artificial Reef Name

Salt Water Sportsman Offshore Editor Gary Caputi was surprised to see a new piece of underwater structure named in his honor. Composed of 30 retired New York City subway cars on the Sea Girt Reef, the new hot spot was dubbed “Caputi’s Train Wreck” by the New Jersey Artificial Reef Association in its second edition of “A Guide to Fishing and Diving New Jersey Reefs.” The association bestowed the honor because of Caputi’s tireless efforts to break the logjam over the subway cars between the New York Transit Authority and the state of New Jersey. The book is an invaluable resource for finding structure-loving game fish, and gives tips on finding and fishing the reef habitat, including loran and DGPS coordinates, pictures and charts of the reef locations.

To order the book, send a check or money order for $23 to Artificial Reef Association, P. O. Box 16, Oceanville, NJ 08231.
