For further information and updates contact the Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries

Effective immediately the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in southwestern Louisiana has been closed until further notice because of wind and surge-caused damage from Hurricane Ike. While the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries buildings will take some time to be repaired, the public launch and fishing area at Joseph Harbor – between Pecan Island and Grand Chenier – will be re-opened as soon as it is deemed safe. Rockefeller is a popular family spot for redfishing as well as recreational shrimping and crabbing. For further information and updates contact the Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries at 225-765-2811.
