Remote Chumming Station

remote_chum.jpg

We troll for king mackerel and cobia, power chumming with bags of frozen menhaden chum, around Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. When a chum bag is almost completely washed out I retrieve it, tie it to a boat fender and throw it overboard. The white fender is easy to spot and floats the chum bag right near the surface. We let the bag soak for about 15 minutes and then troll back to it. As the trolling lures pass close to the fender, we often hook up. After three or four passes, we pick up the fender and chum bag and continue trolling.
