Montauk Surf Classic produced big bass

The tournament was held Sept. 26 to 28

The Montauk Surf Classic was buffeted by big seas from Sept. 26 to 28, but 359 surfcasters braved the elements that brought big stripers into the wash. Jersey Greg Flanagan won a close contest with a 36.78-pound striper that took $750 plus a Van Staal 275 reel over a 35.70-pounder by Leighton Campbell. There weren’t many blues caught, but Rich Warren won $750 and an AquaSkinz Surf pack with Tattoo wood lures by beaching a 12.66-pound chopper to edge the Kellenbach’s – Tom at 11.34 pounds and Barbara with a 10.70-pounder.
