George Poveromo
George Poveromo, Editor-at-Large for Salt Water Sportsman magazine, and one of our most enduring and respected experts, is celebrating his 30th anniversary with SWS.
Poveromo, reflecting on those three decades, says, “The only way I can accurately sum up my 30 years with Salt Water Sportsman is it’s been the most incredible and thrilling ride there ever was.”
Poveromo first appeared on the masthead in 1983, two years after graduating from the University of Miami. At 23, already an old salt, he was recognized by Motor Boating and Sailing as one of the top-eight anglers in the nation. Since then he has fished the entire coastal U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Bermuda, Grand Canary Island, the Caribbean, and most of Central and South America.
But more important for other fishermen, Poveromo has never lost his abiding passion for sharing and communicating his broad and deep knowledge. His feature stories in _SWS r_eflect his expertise, and his monthly “Tactics & Tackle” column is consistently ranked by readers as the No. 1 department in the magazine.
Poveromo’s renowned_ Salt Water Sportsman_ National Seminar Series — an annual eight-city educational program now gearing up for its 27th consecutive year — has since its inception in 1988 taught more than 130,000 anglers how catch more fish.
His immensely popular television series,_ George Poveromo’s World of Saltwater Fishing_, is in its 14th season.
