Florida’s Atlantic snook season will close starting Dec. 15 in state and federal waters, including Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee River, and remain closed through Jan. 31, 2014, reopening on Feb. 1. Catch-and-release fishing for snook is allowed during the closed season.

Gulf state and federal waters, including Monroe County and Everglades National Park closed Dec. 1 and will reopen March 1, 2014.

This and other regular season closures are designed to help protect the species during vulnerable times such as cold weather.
